Message from Pro-Rector
PIEAS is a young university by charter-only twenty-five years old-but our legacy as an institution of advanced learning stretches back nearly six decades. This dual heritage is our strength: the agility and dynamism of a modern university combined with the maturity, discipline, and deeply rooted academic traditions of an institution that has served the nation for over sixty years.
Despite our long-standing contributions, PIEAS remains less widely known in the public domain compared to larger universities. This is primarily because of our intentionally small size and our focus on highly specialized, hi-tech disciplines. For much of our history, our graduates, particularly in nuclear engineering, control-systems engineering, nuclear medicine, medical physics, and allied fields, were trained for one principal employer-Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission. Even today, our undergraduate offerings remain limited and purposefully selective, recently producing only around 350 BS graduates each year.
Yet it is precisely this small size, specialized mission, and uncompromising focus on quality that define PIEAS's strength. Our faculty, researchers, and students operate within an ecosystem built for depth rather than breadth-an environment where rigorous academics, hands-on laboratory engagement, and high-stakes research converge. The result is a body of work that has gained remarkable recognition both nationally and internationally. PIEAS continues to make a significant impact in global university rankings, consistently securing a place among the world's top institutions in engineering, technology, and physical sciences. Our research contributions and industry collaborations further demonstrate the value and relevance of our mission.
PIEAS today stands as a unique attraction for a wide spectrum of stakeholders: for aspiring BS students seeking top-tier education in computer science, engineering, and physics; for MS candidates aiming to specialize in frontier fields such as AI, cyber security, quantum science, and advanced engineering disciplines; for PhD scholars looking for fully supported, research-intensive doctoral training; for PAEC Fellowship aspirants competing nationally for elite MS training; for students passionate about hands-on experimentation in state-of-the-art laboratories; for parents seeking a safe, secure, and academically rigorous environment; for employers in engineering and technology eager to recruit exceptionally trained graduates; and for industry partners looking to collaborate with world-class researchers on their most demanding technical challenges.
Our graduates stand as the strongest testament to PIEAS's excellence. More than 90% of our BS alumni secure employment within six months of completing their degree-an achievement that reflects not only the quality of their preparation but also the confidence that employers place in PIEAS education. Whether they join industry, pursue advanced studies, or engage in high-impact research, our students carry forward the institution's legacy with distinction.
At PIEAS, we uphold values that have guided us for decades: academic rigor, research integrity, merit, innovation, and service to the nation. These values are not merely aspirations; they are the foundation of every program we design, every student we mentor, and every initiative we undertake.
As PIEAS continues to expand its horizons-from strengthening industry linkages to welcoming a growing number of international students-we remain committed to advancing scientific and technological excellence for Pakistan and contributing meaningfully to the global academic community.

Genesis
The seeds for this institution were sown in 1967, when a small training facility called 'Reactor School' was established to conduct courses in nuclear technology for the young engineers and scientists. Reactor School was formally affiliated with Quaid-i-Azam University (then called the University of Islamabad) for the award of a Masters' degree in nuclear technology through its Physics Department. Fellowship programme was instituted in 1972, under which science and engineering graduates were invited to compete for the award of attractive fellowships for the duration of the course.
The Reactor School was upgraded and renamed as 'Centre for Nuclear Studies' in 1976. CNS introduced several new degree programmes which included M.Sc. (Systems Engineering) in 1988; M.Sc. (Nuclear Medicine) in 1989; and Ph.D. (Nuclear Engineering) in 1990. PIEAS has active links with the reputed universities in developed countries and these links have been very helpful for excellent development of PhD program at PIEAS.PIEAS Insignia
PIEAS insignia is an embodiment of two mathematical visualisations.; a Mobius strip and a triangular surface.
The Mobius strip or Mobius band is a surface with only one side and only one boundary component.
The Mobius strip has the mathematical property of being non-orientable. It was discovered independently by the
German mathematicians August Ferdinand Mobius and Johann Benedict. If one were to travel along the
length of this strip, one would return to its starting point having traversed every part of the strip without
ever crossing an edge. The shape of the Mobius strip probably dates to ancient times. An Alexandrian manuscript
of early Alchemical diagrams contains an illustration with the visual proportions of the Mobius strip.
The Euler characteristic of the Mobius strip is zero.
The three arcs of the triangular surface, formed by three adjoining spheres, represent application, research
and knowledge. Research can be defined as the search for knowledge or any systematic investigation to
establish facts. The primary purpose for applied research is discovering, interpreting, and the
development of methods and systems for the advancement of human knowledge on a wide variety of scientific
matters of our world and engineering approaches to solve the problems.
The concept for the insignia was initiated by Dr. Abdullah Sadiq (former Rector PIEAS) and Dr. Anwar Majid Mirza. The computer visualization was made by Mr. Umar Faiz.
After evolutionary period, in which many people contributed and advanced the concept, the insignia in its present design was finally adopted.
