PIEAS faculty has won Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) and National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) research project titled, "Two-Dimensional Transition Metal Dichalcoginide Based Photodectors and Quantum Effect Devices". The project was submitted by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aftab Rafiq, Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering and Prof. Dr. Xiulai Xu from Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing China. PSF-NSFC received 131 proposal this years and only 12 proposals have been recommended for funding after detailed review. In this project, two-dimensional transition metal dichalcoginde (2DTMDC) materials (e.g. MoS2, WS2) will be synthesized and characterized. 2DTMDCs are graphene like material but with the advantage that these materials have bandgap. Standard micro/nanofabrication techniques will be used to fabricate photodetectors, sensors and quantum effect devices based on these materials. Such work is already in progress in Micro and Nano Devices Group, Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, PIEAS.
