PIEAS Library Introduction
Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences Library dates back to 1969 with the inception of CNS (Centre for Nuclear Sciences). The existing building has occupied an area of 3728 square feet. It was established to cater to the research and academic needs of the faculty, scholars and students of CNS. PIEAS Library is the state of the art in the areas of Chemical & Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Computer & Information Sciences, Communication & Management Sciences, Medical Sciences and Physics & Applied Sciences.

Resources
It has established its repute in the reading community by providing excellent services and facilities to fulfill their academic pursuits and information needs. It houses a very rich collection in the specified areas of applied sciences. It has stocked around 20,000 titles.

Books and other reading materials are put into various sections according to their subject. These are identified by their contemporary collection designations on the spines of the books. Universal Decimal Classification system is being used for the knowledge resources classification.

In addition to books PIEAS Library subscribe a suitable number of journals, periodicals, magazines and newspapers of national and international repute that provides the readers an opportunity to remain current about the latest innovations and trends in education and research.

Loans
All registered users are entitled to borrow books. Lending privileges differ for various categories. Efficient staff always remains ready at circulation disc to facilitate the users at the earliest to avoid wastage of their precious time.

Automation
PIEAS Library is fully automated using a very outstanding system/ software to cope with the growing needs of libraries in today's sophisticated era. It provides a very easy and simple access to existing and circulated stocks. Faculty, Scholars and Students explore the library at their own respective departments.

Inter Library Loan
In the present era where printed media is in multiplication mode and prices of foreign and research publications are at their reasonable peak, it is not possible for a single library even of the developed country to house each and every material publish in the world that is of its reader's interest, to shoulder these critical challenges most of the world libraries adopt Inter Library Loan. Likewise if a publication is not owned by PIEAS Library it adopts Inter Library Loan to facilitate its user.

Book Acquisition
Collection of PIEAS Library is strong because it is the result of team work. Teachers, scholars and students forward list of their Books to library, and then it is processed by the acquisition cell to mature the purchase at the earliest.

User Education
The PIEAS Library's qualified staff gives a wide range of presentations to each new class, to enable the readers to use the library to its maximum potential.

Reference Collection
A significant number of printed and electronic sources are available on reference shelves which are not for issue and can only be consulted in the four walls of the library.
