Ph.D. Programme

The Doctor of Philosophy Degree Programmes

In this Programme students are prepared to take responsibility for design, research, or development at any level, over a broad range of both applied and pure nature problems in engineering and applied sciences. A doctoral research project usually is directed toward the solution of an original problem in a highly specialized area, however, the techniques and methods learned and employed in this effort are widely applicable.

Principal requirements for the Ph.D. degree are a program of courses, set of examinations, research work and the submission of a thesis based on an original investigation. Courses are selected to assist the student in furthering the objectives of his or her program. Thesis should be a significant contribution worthy of publication in recognized scientific or engineering journal.

Each student plans a program of study with the advice and approval of his or her major professor and members of his or her advisory committee. Although no minimum number of course hours is specified, experience has shown that about 36 hours of total graduate school coursework normally are needed to accomplish a student's objectives. PIEAS is currently offering Ph.D. programmes in following departments:

Chemical and Materials Engineering

Electrical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

Nuclear Engineering

Computer and Information Sciences

Medical Sciences

Physics and Applied Mathematics

The objective of these programs leading to the Doctor of Philosophy's degree is to give the student comprehensive knowledge of the subject and to develop competence in original research. General requirements for admissions to Ph.D. studies at PIEAS are given below. Specific requirements for Ph.D. studies may be sought from individual departments.
